The Washington Wizards have secured the face of their franchise for the foreseeable future.
According to ESPN, four-time NBA All-Star Trae Young intends to sign a four-year contract worth approximately $212 million to remain in Washington. The deal reportedly includes a player option in the fourth year, giving Young flexibility while providing the Wizards with long-term stability.
Young declined his $49 million player option ahead of free agency in favor of negotiating a new long-term agreement, signaling a strong commitment to the organization and its future direction.
Since arriving in Washington, Young has remained one of the league’s most dynamic offensive players, combining elite playmaking with deep shooting range. His ability to orchestrate an offense and create opportunities for teammates has made him a cornerstone piece as the Wizards continue building toward playoff contention.
The extension eliminates any uncertainty surrounding Young’s future and represents one of the most significant commitments of the offseason. For Washington, retaining an All-Star caliber point guard in his prime was a top priority, and the organization appears to have accomplished exactly that before free agency officially begins.
With Young locked in, the Wizards can now focus on surrounding their franchise star with the talent necessary to compete in an increasingly competitive Eastern Conference.
